Yes, our beloved legislature has approved a bill which will charge tournament organizations for the issuance of permits. And it's no small charge .... $120 per tournament !
This is quite a burden on smaller circuits such as C.A.S.T., as it equates to over 2 full entry fees. I'm trying to think of how to cover the cost next year, and your feedback is welcome.
Here are what I see as the options:
1. Leave everything as is and simply take out the $120 from the payback at each tournament. This really hurts our current nice payback percentage we have.
2. Raise membership fees and leave the paybacks at the tournaments just as they are now. For this year we would have incurred a $720 fee for permits. Guessing at about 30 teams (60 members) signing up, we'd need to increase the membership fee by $12. If we ended up with more than 30 teams, I would just put the money towards the TOC and year end awards.
3. Increase tournament entries to compensate for the $120. Probably $5 per entry would cover it. Payback percentage would be less but amounts would be the same as now.
4. Have C.A.S.T. pay it and eat the cost. Well, as much as I'd like to, I'm not going to operate these tournaments any further in the red than I already do. As you all know, or should know, we payback the best because I operate at 0 profit margin for myself, and in fact have run at a negative for the last 2 years.
5. Find a sponsor who would cover it. This would obviously be the best, as it would be a non issue. Pretty hard to find someone though. C.A.S.T. does operate as a non profit corporation, and is listed as educational fishing for women, so maybe if anyone knows of someone / someplace that would like to associate with us, that would be nice. Any ideas?
6. What can you guys think of?
